Our Technology
Inspired by Nature.
Perfected by Science.
AvantGuard’s breakthrough technology, Avantamine™, is built on the principles of our body’s own immune response. In nature, neutrophils – our immune cells – produce a compound called taurine chloramine. This compound is highly effective at rapidly killing a broad spectrum of pathogens, with no risk of resistance generation.
However, taurine chloramine’s instability outside the body limits its use. To overcome this, AvantGuard has developed a novel version of this compound: Avantamine. Designed to mimic the powerful properties of taurine chloramine, Avantamine offers the same broad-spectrum efficacy, but with the added benefit of a 3-5 year shelf life – making it a reliable, long-lasting solution for combating infections like Candida auris and other dangerous pathogens.

Introducing Avantamine™
A better, more stable and more flexible chloramine.
Avantamine™ retains the benefits of a chlorinated biocide having broad spectrum efficacy, quick kill, and no resistance generation, but with greater stability and less corrosion on metal, skin, and fabric.

Tested in Leading Research Labs
Proven Efficacy
Avantamine’s effectiveness has been subjected to controlled testing in multiple studies, including in vivo and ex vivo trials at the University of Miami and iFyber. These studies demonstrate that Avantamine offers superior performance compared to current antifungal treatments and antiseptics.

In vivo testing
In a pilot study against Trichophyton rubrum – a dermatophyte fungus that causes common skin and nail infections – using a porcine model, Avantamine’s liquid formulation showed comparable efficacy to miconazole, while the gel formulation was as effective as clotrimazole.
-
Combination treatment – When used together, Avantamine’s liquid and gel formulations delivered results greater than both miconazole and clotrimazole, highlighting the enhanced power of our solution.
-
Histology – Tests show that Avantamine is highly biocompatible, with a safety profile similar to that of existing antifungals, and no adverse effects on healing.
Ex vivo testing
On porcine skin, Avantamine outperformed chlorhexidine, the current standard of care. While chlorhexidine achieved only a 3-log reduction in C. auris, the combination of Avantamine liquid and gel completely eradicated the pathogen.
Compatibility of Avantamine™
Readily combines with monomers to provide added functionality.
The Avantamine molecule is just the start. By combining Avantamine with different monomers, the water solubility of an Avantamine containing polymer can be tuned to the desired level of concentration. Avantamine can be attached to surfaces, like a coating, to provide long term residual protection to those surfaces. Or, Avantamine can be integrated directly into surfaces, as a plastic additive, to provide permanent protection against pathogens and can also provide a hydrophilic surface that resists biofilms.
Additional Features
-
Polymeric - ability to add monomers, too large for cellular uptake.
-

Added Functionality Use Case
Combining Avantamine™ and anti-adhesion efficacy.
Zwitterions are just one of the added functionalities that can readily combine with Avantamine™. Zwitterions interact with water molecules and essentially form a water barrier that makes it hard for proteins to stick to a surface. Zwitterion chemistry has allowed Cornell researchers to demonstrate that an implanted device can evade the human body’s immune system for several months. To demonstrate Avantamine™'s range of functionality, AvantGuard teamed up with Cornell University, one of the leaders in employing Zwitterion technology.

A Game-changer for Pathogen Defense
Avantamine™ changes chlorine's safety/efficacy trade-off
Avantamine is a broad spectrum biocide that eliminates all pathogens and their biofilms, yet is safe enough to use on all surfaces, skin included, without the corrosion and irritation of other chlorinated products.
Eliminates all pathogens and their biofilms:

Virus

Gram +

Gram -

Yeast

Fungi
Unprecedented Safety + Efficacy
Gentle enough to use on all surfaces, including skin.
Chlorine is a powerful biocide with a one-hundred-year history, an effective oxidizing agent that kills bacteria, fungi, mold, and viruses, with no resistance generation. Until now, the downside of chlorine has been corrosion and safety issues. Avantamine™ changes the game for chlorine chemistries, with a solution that kills everything but can be used without irritation on the skin.
